I’m Maddie Olexa, a second-year medical student at Duke University School of Medicine. I grew up in Phoenix, Arizona, and first came to Duke for my undergraduate studies, where I earned my degree in Neuroscience. My experiences here sparked a lasting passion for research, mentorship, and the intersection of science and human connection.
My current research interests include orthopaedic surgery, regenerative medicine, and clinical outcomes. I’m especially drawn to projects that explore how we can improve surgical recovery and patient quality of life through innovation and evidence-based practice. I also care deeply about mentorship – both learning from those ahead of me and supporting those coming up behind me.
Outside of medicine, I love staying active through volleyball, hiking, and spending time outdoors. Duke has always felt like a place where curiosity and community thrive, and I’m excited to continue growing as both a future surgeon and mentor within this lab.
